Hugely experienced centre back who joined the Pitmen from Blyth Spartans in December 2016

A well-known face around the local non-league scene, Caines has had a long and distinguished career at many levels of the game, starting as a junior at Walsall in 2003. He was loaned to Stafford Rangers for two months in October 2003 for a chance to play first team games, before returning to the Bescot Stadium

Released in the summer of 2004, Caines made his way to Cheltenham Town, where he was to have great success in six years at Whaddon Road. He was in the Robins side that earned promotion to League One in May 2006, beating Grimsby Town at the Millennium Stadium to secure the trophy

His final season at Cheltenham saw the perhaps-inevitable relegation back to League Two after three years of struggle at the third tier of English Football, with Caines one of a number of players released by Martin Allen

He moved into non-league football with a transfer to Kidderminster Harriers in August 2009, with Steve Burr taking over as manager in December of that year after Mark Yates had moved to Cheltenham. Burr allowed Caines to go out on loan soon after joining, loaning the defender to Luton Town until the end of the season

After leaving Kidderminster in the summer of 2010, he linked up with Forest Green Rovers after trials elsewhere, including a spell at Stafford Rangers once more. A consistent season at the New Lawn saw Caines play over forty times, as Rovers finished in one of the relegation places and looked destined to go down until Salisbury City were removed from the league due to financial issues

Caines took a further step down in the summer of 2011 to join ambitious Eastwood Town, who were looking for a title tilt at the Blue Square North title after a summer of big spending. Caines spent a portion of the 2011-2012 season on loan to Redditch United, as he looked for first team football after falling out of favour at Coronation Park

A return to Walsall was on the cards for Caines in the summer of 2012, as he returned to the area to link up with Rushall Olympic. He spent four successful seasons with the Pics, helping them establish themselves in the middle reaches of the Evo-Stik Premier league after promotion in 2011. His final season at Dales Lane saw Rushall in contention for a play-off place for much of the campaign, but fell away at the end of the season and triggered a number of departures, including Caines himself and manager Richard Sneekes

After being relocated to the North East due to work, Caines found himself in demand from the local non-league clubs who wished to tap into his vast experience. Blyth Spartans snapped up Caines in August 2016, with the defender making eight starts for the Croft Park side before having a short spell on a dual registration deal with Evo-Stik Division One North big spenders South Shields

After returning to the Midlands in December 2016, new Hednesford manager Paul Casey did not hesitate in bringing in the experienced campaigner, making his Hednesford debut in a 2-0 win over Workington
